2pm: Here and Now Labor Day Festival– Dal Sogno Ensemble
August 30 at 2:00 pm
Through Her Eyes
is a concert of chamber music by contemporary women composers whose works respond to war, injustice, resilience, and the process of healing. This thoughtfully curated program brings together four powerful pieces that reflect a wide spectrum of artistic voices and lived experiences. Some are rooted in direct engagement with conflict or crisis, while others respond through observation, poetic metaphor, or imagined worlds. The concert will feature works by four current members of New York Women Composers (NYWC).
Dal Sogno Ensemble is a flexible and expressive chamber group committed to socially relevant programming.
For this project, the ensemble’s instrumentation includes flute, clarinet, violin, viola, cello, and piano — a configuration designed to offer textural richness and accommodate a variety of chamber works.
In addition to the core ensemble, the program will feature guest artists:
Diana Solomon-Glover, narrator, brings deep interpretive insight and theatrical presence to works that incorporate text. Her work as a librettist, spoken-word performer, and social advocate makes her uniquely suited to guide audiences through music that deals with justice, memory, and transformation.
Donna Weng Friedman, pianist, is known for her sensitive artistry and commitment to diversity in classical music. She has premiered numerous works by women and underrepresented composers and brings deep experience with contemporary repertoire and collaboration.
Irina Nuzova, pianist, is a versatile and expressive performer equally at home in solo, chamber, and interdisciplinary contexts. Her thoughtful musicality and technical command bring clarity and nuance to complex and emotionally charged works.
