Bargemusic: 1977 – 2007
Because the exact historic date of Bargemusic’s beginning is murky, we have decided to celebrate our 30th anniversary over the course of three years, beginning in 2007. All are welcome to join us in this festive celebration. —Olga Bloom
30th Anniversary Commissioning Project
Bargemusic provides the opportunity to experience classical chamber music in a unique setting, with the intimacy originally intended for chamber music, but rarely experienced today. For our 30th anniversary, we have commissioned modern works created especially for Bargemusic’s intimate setting and distinctive character. By commissioning and presenting works from young and daring composers, Bargemusic is reaching out to new and younger audiences as well as our faithful patrons.
During the past year many emerging and established composers have had their works performed and premiered at the Bargemusic. Recently Bargemusic presented composers such as Peter Lachert, Mark O’Connor, J. G. Heras, Jennifer Higdon, David Kechley, Elizabeth Adams, Dick Hyman, Tom Chiu, Vito Ricci, David Shohl, Yotam Haber, William Rogers, and others. Contemporary music ensembles such as The Knights, William Chamber Players and The Flux Quartet have become regular guest performers at the barge.
For the 2007-2008 season, to begin the celebration of our 30th anniversary, Bargemusic has commissioned six composers—Daniel Ott, Behzad Ranjbaran, Yotam Haber, Alexandra Du Bois, Dick Hyman, and Russell Platt—to write chamber music works to be premiered in our floating concert hall.
